You only get one chance to make a first impression—and when it comes to selling your home, that first impression matters. Buyers start forming opinions the second they pull up to the curb, and those opinions only strengthen as they walk through the door.
In Episode 3 of our Spring Seller Series, let’s talk about how to make your home show-ready so it stands out, sells faster, and gets stronger offers.

✨ First Impressions Start at the Curb
Before buyers even step inside, they're already assessing the exterior. A little effort here goes a long way:
Clean up the yard: Mow the lawn, trim hedges, and pull weeds.
Freshen up the front: Add a new doormat, potted flowers, and consider painting the front door.
Keep it tidy: Hide garbage bins, put away garden tools, and ensure walkways are clear.
Your home’s exterior sets the tone. Make sure it says “Welcome Home.”
🕯️ Create a Clean, Comfortable, and Neutral Interior
Once buyers step inside, they should feel like they could live there. Here’s how to set the right vibe:
Deep clean: Floors, carpets, windows, and especially kitchens and bathrooms should sparkle.
Declutter: Remove excess furniture, family photos, and personal items to make rooms feel bigger and more neutral.
Smell check: A fresh scent is crucial. Avoid strong air fresheners—opt for subtle scents like vanilla or citrus. Open windows before showings and avoid cooking strong-smelling meals.

🚫 No Pets, No Smoke
We love our furry friends, but not all buyers do. During showings:
Remove pets from the home (or at least crate them).
Hide pet beds, bowls, and litter boxes.
Neutralize pet odors—you may be used to them, but buyers will notice!
And if you're a smoker, make sure all indoor areas are thoroughly cleaned and deodorized. Residual smoke smells can be a major turnoff for buyers.
🕰️ Make Showings Easy
Buyers are more likely to view homes that are easy to access. Stay flexible with showing times and be ready to leave the house when a showing is scheduled. The more convenient it is to tour your home, the more interest you’ll attract.
🏡 Small Touches, Big Impact
Here are a few bonus tips to make your home more inviting:
Turn on all lights and open blinds before a showing.
Set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature.
Add a bowl of fresh fruit or flowers in the kitchen.
Make the beds, fluff pillows, and put away laundry.
